CHRISTIAN CLARE ROBERTSON
SMALL OILS

Littoral, 2008 Oil on canvas-board, 101x152mm This tiny painting is reminiscent of my early works of c 1968, which have been described as 'lyrical abstraction'. These dealt with imagery derived from the beach, where ocean and land interact. These works often used vermilion, turquoise and white as the dominant hues. This painting was worked around a rich swathe of thick paint applied with a pallette knife - and the remainder of the image had then to be integrated seamlessly with it.
