ANTARCTICA SERIES

Ice Spur , 1990.
Oil on linen. 840x2290mm
Here is one of the paradoxes of the Antarctic landscape. The leading edge of a glacier has pushed up a slab of sea ice as it advances onto the sea ice, with refrozen meltwater in between. This whole 'landscape' is entirely formed from ice, and is far offshore from the Antarctic continent, with deep ocean beneath. |
