How the Extreme Landforms sites were selected
Iceland is in the northern polar region and is one of the newest landmasses on earth. Greenland is also in the northern polar region and is one of the most ancient landmasses. Eastern Antarctica is in the southern polar region and is another of the most ancient landmasses. The island of Hawaii is in the western tropics and is one of the newest landmasses. The Kimberley and Kakadu regions of Northern Australia are in the eastern tropics and are extremely ancient.
